Report

Report:Right… what a night, let’s put it this way, the night was not without its dramas!!! In keeping with those dramas, some matches will have a longer report than others…

I will start by saying that it was an incredible night of squash played by all but there is one match I must highlight as the match of the night (and not for good reasons on either side) and this was Sherlock vs Euan Thomson. Now Euan is notorious for being difficult to umpire so I took it upon myself to mark him myself after my game. Starting the first game Sherlock was looking strong but unfortunately losing the first 11-8. Following this Sherlock took a bit of a dip in the second game making a few silly errors but brought it back really nicely and was on the cusp of winning it only yet again to be let down by his silly errors. Coming into the third game both players very heated and keen to win however Euan just having a bit more patience on when to hit his winning shot than Sherlock resulting in a 11-8 loss in the final game with a 3-0 loss for Sherlock overall. Now I think Sherlock might’ve been a bit upset at the end result feeling like he had the chances and the ability to get a game or two off of Euan and he let that feeling out through a passionate swing of his racket in protest… what he may or may not have realised is that squash is a sport where you have four walls surrounding you and he was a little too close to one wall to be swinging his racket like he did - a bit embarrassing really, would have thought he’d have better spatial awareness with how good he is at squash!!! (Francis please refer to the photo attached)

Now in chronological order:

We started with myself and Luke on court against the Thomson family - Luke against the dad and myself against the eldest son. Luke had previously won 3-1 against Jack Thomson but tonight lost 3-0, not sure what Luke decided to blame it on, sounded like he blamed a sudden appearance of a fat gut despite his smart watch telling him 6 pints was okay to have within his daily calories??

My match I played the older (still teenage) Thomson brother, now I should’ve won the first and the third game 11-9, alas, I let my impatience get the better of me and played textbook @⁨Kit Dickeson⁩ shots to finish the match early for him!

Next was Tom and Sherlock (see sherlocks match report above). Now Tommy appeared to have a blinder of a first game and a good innings of a second game but then I checked in at the end whilst I was marking Arran and found him to lose 11-1 in the third and final game - an unfortunate loss for our clubs most devoted player…

Arran starting off against Stuart Rogers as the final match of the night, Arran looking calm on court and making his opponent go every which wrong way as well as playing some lovely squash to win the only match we won all night!!

Away Report

Away Report:'Can’t really match the report from Matt above but some good close games and highlight was the racket in the bin at end of night. As for my performance, called up at last minute, moving like a true Vet, pickleball awaits!! '
